Covid-19 policy updates
At Huron Ophthalmology, we have been fitting patients with contact lenses for over 25 years. We fit a large array of specialty and routine contact lenses, and have successfully fit many patients who have been unsuccessful elsewhere. Our experience makes us confident that we can fit many people who have been told in the past that they could not wear contact lenses. We are especially interested in mature adults who desire to wear contacts but have been told not to try them because of their age, and those patients who need contact lenses due to medical necessity.
WE OFFER THE FOLLOWING TYPES OF CONTACT LENSES:
Traditional soft daily wear
Custom corneal contact lens Paragon CRT.
Disposable - this includes daily disposable lenses
Soft astigmatism lenses for low and high amounts of astigmatism
Bifocal - soft and gas permeable
MEDICAL PROBLEMS THAT CAN BE HELPED WITH CONTACT LENSES:
Irregular astigmatism due to injuries or infections
Aphakia or post cataract
Post corneal transplants
ANSWERS TO COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
I HAVE A LOT OF ASTIGMATISM. CAN I BE FIT FOR CONTACT LENSES?
Probably. There are excellent options in soft and gas permeable contact lenses for even high amounts of astigmatism.
HOW ABOUT BIFOCAL CONTACTS?
Another common myth is that once a patient reaches the age when bifocal correction is needed that contact lenses will not provide the necessary correction. This is absolutely not the case. There are a multitude of options that work well. There are new developments in soft and gas permeable bifocal contact lenses, as well as, the time tested monovision.
WHAT IS MONOVISION?
This technique involves focusing one eye for distance and the other eye for near tasks. As strange as this sounds, it works in upwards of ninety percent of our patients, and is the favorite of many of our senior contact lens patients.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF DISPOSABLE CONTACTS?
They are easier to maintain and offer extra convenience and comfort.
I HAVE BEEN WEARING HARD CONTACTS BUT THEY HAVE BECOME DIFFICULT TO WEAR. CAN YOU PROVIDE ANY HELP FOR ME?
Rigid or gas permeable lenses are often an excellent choice, but soft lenses may offer many patients the comfort they may not have been able to obtain from the use of rigid lenses.
HOW OLD DOES A CHILD HAVE TO BE TO BE FIT WITH CONTACT LENSES?
Children are often overlooked as contact lens patients, but with the relative safety and variety of choices today, we think they can be very successful contact lens patients. Maturity is a more important factor than age in determining the ability to wear contact lenses. Working with their parents, the doctor can help make a contact lens decision rather than using a specific age as a determinant.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I AM INTERESTED IN CONTACT LENSES?
